Studying Abroad - Widening Your Horizons
Studying abroad really helps in growing professionally as well as personally, yes, we have all heard that at some point in life. Pursuing studies abroad is quite exhilarating and overwhelming too. It is an innate desire for many students and many look at it to grow as an individual and that is considered as an all-round development. Studying abroad has a lot of benefits and the knowledge gained in the process is invaluable.
Studying abroad on many facets holds true to the fact that an individual grows both professionally and personally. Well on the personal side of things you will learn to become:
Independent; By becoming independent, there are some changes and adaptations you have to make. You need to figure out things on your own, you need to be organized, you have to do your own laundry, and so on and so forth.
Adaptability; you adapt to different situations as you are exposed to a whole new environment and learn how to deal with them.
Language; you are adding a great repertoire to your list of personal skills as it is quite a challenge many face when they travel to another country.
Micro management; This means that you divide your daily tasks in an organized manner and a bonus! you also get to learn to manage your time well in this process.
Confidence; Confidence is something that grows when you deal with situations and this is a skill which you want to bring to the table as it really helps the way you are confident with regards to talking to someone, doing a task, etc.
On the professional side of things, well based on research and asking a few friends, the skills which you will get nurtured is:
Networking; networking has always proven to be a winner and really helps exchange ideas and you never know when the opportunity comes knocking at your door.
Deep understanding of cultures; when you go to a different country you learn about a new culture altogether such as manners, food and drinking habits, how you are received there, new transportation, their lifestyle, etc.
Communication; communication skills are key in any field and we often face this challenge. In this day and age, how we communicate and the way we present ourselves is something that studying abroad has proven to improve their communication quite drastically.
Straying away from the usual perks of studying abroad, there is a point which is Self- actualization. I want to quote Ankur Warikoo - an Indian-based entrepreneur, angel investor, public speaker, mentor on this one "Spending time with different people, teaching methods, peers really help to understand yourself". So, studying abroad in a way helps you understand yourself, discover your potential and talents.
Studying abroad is an experience by itself, you are out there facing the world and doing it by yourself; that is something! and getting out of your comfort zone and getting exposed to a whole new environment is not easy at all. Studying abroad is no cake walk and comes with its own challenges, but if you are willing to put yourself out there, hold on tight, you are in for a transformational ride in your journey.
